Veterinarian

Dr. Holt is a graduate of Cookeville High School, class of 1995.  He served in the United States Army following high school and remained in the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard for eight years.  He completed his undergraduate degree in agriculture at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville Tennessee.  Dr. Holt received his Doctoral Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at Tuskegee University in 2005. 
He has worked as a veterinarian for 17 years in Cookeville, Tennessee and in the veterinary field for the last 27 years.  Dr. Holt won the prestigious “Best of the Best Award” voted by readers choice of the Cookeville Harold Citizen in 2013. Dr. Holt has 1 daughter “Alex.”  As of January 2, 2015, Dr. Holt operates Homestead AMC, PLLC located at 55 Bob Tollett Loop in Crossville Tennessee. 

Dr. Holt’s pictured pet is “Pooh” born December 2021, Pomeranian and Shihtzu mix, Pooh loves everyone and meeting new people on her walks with Dr. Holt.

After serving 46 years with various law enforcement agencies, Richard M. Holt retired from public service as a Law Enforcement Liaison Administrator with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and as the first Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) State Coordinator for the State of Tennessee. Implementing the DRE program, he was responsible for training the first Tennessee Law Enforcement related to Drug-Impaired Driving. Furthermore, Richard has a Criminal Justice Bachelor’s Degree from Belmont University. He also completed The Robert F. Borkenstein Course on the Effects of Drugs on Human Performance and Behavior, FBI National Academy, and many other specialized courses relating to law enforcement, K9 Training, and leadership. Moreover, Richard also retired as a Captain from Tennessee Army National Guard after 26 years of service as a chemical officer.

Richard found his passion for animals as a K-9 officer serving our country. He is very fortunate to be a part of his sons’ clinic to help Crossville’s pets. Richard takes on roles in the office as needed, such as office manager, working with staff, vendors, and most of all our clients with their fur babies. His preferred role is to interact with the animals and to help all pets to feel better and go home. Currently, Richard is a proud parent of four cats named: Catfish, Smokie, Peanut, and Dandie.
